VERDICT TIP #17: PRICE YOUR WORK CORRECTLY

In the world of (commercial or advertising) photography the biggest point of concern is how to effectively and consistently price our photos to be fair to us and the client. Easier said than done, right? Most of us work in between the 'I love photography and I'd do this for free' and the 'I don't want to price myself out of jobs' categories. Straight up, there is no easy answer...pricing depends on a multitude of variables and each job is different. Yet, one major factor in pricing doesn't concern you or your client, yet the impact of your pricing on the other photographers in your market. Healthy competition is a great thing, but under cutting the prices of other local photogs to guarantee you work is a sure fire way to make enemies and lower the overall price point in your area. Don't do this.
